We’ve all heard the variation of the saying that you’ve always got 20-20 vision when you look back on decisions that have been made.
With that in mind, how brilliant does Saints general manager Mickey Loomis look for the Jonathan Vilma trade in 2008?
New Orleans sent the Jets a fourth-round pick in 2008 and a conditional third- or fourth-round pick in 2009, depending on Vilma’s play, for the middle linebacker.
I’d say the Saints came out on top in this one as Vilma has led the team in tackles the three seasons he has been in New Orleans and he is easily the leader of the defense, making the calls on the field and running the show.
Well, NFL Network seems to back up this sentiment. He’s ranked No. 37 on their top 100 players of 2011 list. Quarterback Drew Brees waxes poetic about his defensive counterpart in this three-plus minute video.
It’s good watching, especially when you’re trying to keep up your interest in the sport because of the lockout.
And yet, Matt Williamson writes on ESPN.com that Vilma needs to pick up his act in 2011. Williamson says he's overrated.
