METAIRIE, La. ― Drew Brees is known around the Saints’ locker room as the consummate team player.
Apparently, that’s a family trait.
Why’s that? Let Drew tell you about his wife Brittany’s plan for the upcoming birth of their second child.
“She basically says, ‘There’s no way you’re missing a game for this. You owe it to your team,’ ” Brees said Wednesday. “I guess it’s always that deal. But I’m just going to go ahead and say we’re timing this thing out. God might have another plan but we’re going to try.”
Brittany Brees is due with their second boy Oct. 18, the Monday following the Saints’ road game at Tampa Bay. Ultimately, that would be the best situation for Drew as the lightest days of work are Monday and Tuesday. That’s at least when he said he hopes it happens.
But if labor begins around game time, well, the Saints’ Pro Bowl quarterback said he doesn’t expect to find out.
“She has basically told me if it comes in or around game time, she’s not going to tell me,” Brees said. “She’s just going to say, ‘Yeah, everything’s great,’ and she could be laying in the hospital 10 centimeters dilated, ready to go and she’s just going to tell me, ‘Everything’s fine. See you when you get home.’ And then I might show up and there might be a little baby waiting there for me.”
The Brees’s already have one son, 1-year-old Baylen. Brittany Brees’ mother is set to take care of him when his parents head to the hospital, Drew Brees said.
