METAIRIE, La. ― Saints defensive back Randall Gay sat out Wednesday’s practice after suffering through headaches that Head Coach Sean Payton said likely stem from a concussion he suffered on Sept. 26 in the Atlanta game.
Additionally, running back Pierre Thomas missed his third Wednesday in a row with an ankle injury. Cornerback Tracy Porter (knee) and running back Reggie Bush (right fibula) continue to miss as they rehab their respective injuries.
Defensive end Will Smith (groin) was limited.
As for Gay, Payton said the decision was made in-house because the defensive back already passed all of his neurological tests.
In regard to signing running back Julius Jones, Payton said it was a depth issue with Thomas still missing time. Jones doesn’t play special teams, but would be the third running back in a situation that called for it, Payton said.
