METAIRIE, La. ― The list of walking wounded grew exponentially Saturday less than 48 hours after the Saints the dropped their preseason opener to New England.
Leading the list was punter Thomas Morstead, who attended the session dressed in his jersey but no pads or a helmet. He was wearing a sling on his left shoulder.
Sean Payton said x-rays and an MRI came up negative and he would monitor Morstead’s progress throughout the week. But the news was good in that it’s not a long-term injury.
Tight end Jimmy Graham sat out with an sprained right ankle while receiver Adrian Arrington has a sprained shoulder.
Additionally, safety Usama Young, fullback Marcus Mailei, receiver Rod Harper, linebacker Stanley Arnoux and tight end Tyler Lorenzen all sat out.
Defensive lineman Jimmy Wilkerson was given the practice off while the PUP players – Robert Meachem, Clint Ingram and Darren Sharper – remained out.
Running back Lynell Hamilton’s was waived by the team, according to a statement from Mickey Loomis.
