METAIRIE, La. — Will Herring was added to a growing list of linebackers missing from Saints practice, leaving New Orleans with 10 total healthy players at the position for Tuesday’s session.
Inside linebackers Jonathan Vilma (left knee) and Chris Chamberlain (undisclosed) and outside linebacker Junior Galette (undisclosed) remained out of practice.
Coach Sean Payton said only that there were a handful of guys the team rested who could rest Wednesday depending on where they’re at after Tuesday afternoon.
Vilma has missed the past four practices since going to Philadelphia on Aug. 14 to have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, the same one that has given him problems since the middle of the 2011 season.
Chamberlain, meanwhile, hasn’t practiced since Aug. 11. Galette has been out of practice since injuring what appeared to be his left leg on Aug. 7.
Meanwhile, receiver Joseph Morgan (left knee) remains on the active roster in spite of undergoing surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus and a fully torn anterior cruciate ligament.
The Saints have to trim their roster to 75 by Aug. 27. They’re currently at 81 including linebacker Victor Butler, who is on the physically unable to perform list.
