METAIRIE, La. – The Saints held seven players out of practice Monday, including running back Darren Sproles and defensive end Turk McBride.

The good news, however, was that several players returned, including tight end Jimmy Graham, who went down late in this past Wednesday’s practice at New England with what appeared to be a back injury. Additionally, receiver Devery Henderson (ankle) and linebacker David Hawthorne (hip flexor) returned.

Both worked out a week ago in New England and played in the Saints’ preseason loss to the Patriots on Thursday night.

Acting head coach Joe Vitt said Sproles injured his knee and won’t play against Jacksonville on Friday, though he did say if this were the regular season Sproles likely would play.

McBride was out with an ankle injury, a bad sign considering he missed eight regular season and two postseason games in 2011 with an ankle injury. Vitt didn’t say which ankle Johnson injured and didn’t say when he was expected to return.

Receiver Adrian Arrington, after having a second opinion on his knee, underwent surgery. Vitt gave no timetable as to when the receiver would return.

Meanwhile, backup defensive tackle Tom Johnson missed his third practice in a row with an ankle injury, one Vitt said would keep him out about another 10 days.

Receiver Nick Toon, out four practices with a foot injury, should be back early next week, Vitt said.

And cornerbacks Jabari Greer and Kamaal McIlwain also sat out practice.
