METAIRIE, La. — Seneca Wallace, battling to become the Saints’ backup quarterback, sat out practice Wednesday with a groin injury.
The fact that Wallace is still in New Orleans is a good sign; it means he hasn’t flown to Philadelphia to have sports hernia surgery like so many Saints players have in the past seven seasons.
Wallace was the only new player on the Saints’ injury list. It remains relatively short six practices in.
Linebackers Martez Wilson (left elbow) and Ray Shipman (hamstring) as well as defensive lineman Tom Johnson (hip) were out along with the trio of players on the physically unable to perform list – receiver Marques Colston (foot), cornerback Patrick Robinson (right knee) and linebacker Victor Butler (left knee).
Receiver Jarred Fayson (dehydration) practiced for the first time this fall.
