METAIRIE, La. — Tight end Jimmy Graham didn’t practice Wednesday nearly a week and a half after injuring his right ankle during the Saints’ Sunday night win over the Chargers.
Additionally, starting strongside linebacker Scott Shanle (ill) didn’t practice.
Interim head coach Aaron Kromer said Graham was able to run around a bit while the team was practicing. They’ll slowly work him back in hopes that he can play against Tampa Bay on Sunday.
“Any time you have an ankle (injury), you want to slowly work your way back into game day,” Kromer said. “We know what he can do on the field and we’re just trying to slowly work him in.”
Weakside linebacker David Hawthorne (right hamstring) sat out his seventh-straight practice. Hawthorne hasn’t played since tweaking the hamstring in the Week 3 loss to the Chiefs.
Both cornerback Jabari Greer (groin) and right guard Jahri Evans (toe) were limited. Greer re-injured his groin in the win over San Diego.
Receiver Lance Moore (right hamstring), running back Travaris Cadet (right shoulder), linebacker Jonathan Casillas (neck) and defensive end Turk McBride (left ankle) all were full after missing practices in prior weeks.
For Graham, missing practice is a setback as he tries to get back on track. After setting a franchise record in 2011 for receiving yards by a tight end and catches, he has come back to the pack in 2012. The tight end has 25 catches for 252 yards and three touchdowns.
