METAIRIE, La. - Saints coach Sean Payton wasn't at the team's practice Wednesday but should be at the facility later in the day for practice, a team official said.

Payton checked out of the hospital before noon Wednesday, two days following surgery for a torn mensicus and fractured tibia plateau, or what's amount to a broken knee.

Payton was taken out when a couple of Tampa Bay tacklers pushed tight end Jimmy Graham out of bounds and into him during a play in the first five minutes of the game this past Sunday.

He coached the remainder of the first half from the sideline bench, but spent the second half in the locker room. He is expected to coach from the press box Sunday night in the Superdome when the team hosts Indianapolis on national TV.
