NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans Saints have announced running back Pierre Thomas will not play in the wild card match-up against the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday.

Thomas had missed practice all week with a chest injury.

Mark Ingram and Darren Sproles will hope to step up in Thomas' absence. Ingram is the team's second-leading rusher with 386 yards on 78 carries.

Thomas led the team in carries and rushing yards. He was second only to Jimmy Graham in receptions, with 77.

Philadelphia has had the 10th best rushing defense in the league this year and has held runners to a 3.8 yards per carry average.
