Practice 2/16, Day 10, Training Camp Observations

Injury Report:
RB Reggie Bush and FB Heath Evans sat out the afternoon session, though Bush was dressed out. The official word from the Saints is that there was nothing to report.

The rest was the same from the morning.

WR Rod Harper (left hip) was the only non-PUP player to miss practice Tuesday as the Saints went against the Patriots at New England’s training facilities in suburban Boston.

The PUP players – S Darren Sharper (left knee), WR Robert Meachem (toe) and LB Clint Ingram (left knee) – all continued to sit out practice.

Heat Index:
Start: 88 degrees
End: 88 degrees

Team 1:
The offense certainly got the better of the Patriots on this go-round, though the same could be same for the New England offense.

QB Drew Brees went 4 of 6 on two series, completing passes to RB Pierre Thomas, WR Lance Moore, TE Jeremy Shockey and WR Marques Colston. Of the completions, the pass to Shockey was the nicest. The tight end blew right by Patrick Chung on the right side for a first down on a third-and-10 scripted play.

As for the defense, Pats RB Fred Taylor had a nice run through the middle before DE Will Smith sacked QB Tom Brady, knocking the ball loose from his hands in the process. Brady then hit RB Kevin Faulk for a first down and then RB Laurence Maroney took advantage of a wide gaping hole in the Saints defensive front for a long run.

Also in red-zone work, DE Alex Brown and DE Bobby McCray each likely would have had sacks had quarterbacks been live targets.

Two-Minute drill:
(Saints offense)

Second-and-5 @ 35: Brees throws away as Pats have good coverage

Second-and-goal @ 3: Brees throws to WR Lance Moore in end zone on sideline, who makes a nice catch with New England’s Darius Butler in mugging coverage. It’s a 3-yard TD

First-and-10 @ 13 (:13 seconds): Brees spikes

(Patriots offense)
First-and-10 @ 30: Brady incomplete to TE Aaron Hernandez
Second-and-10 @ 30: Brady to WR Brandon Tate in front of Saints CB Tracy Porter for 16-yard gain
First-and-10 @ 46: Brady to WR Wes Welker for 6-yard gain
