NEW ORLEANS -- The NFL had to make a last-minute change to its officiating crew for Sunday's matchup between the Carolina Panthers and the New Orleans Saints, because one of the replacement referees is apparently a die-hard Saints fan.
ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting that side judge Brian Stropolo was removed from the crew after the network notified the league about the potential conflict of interest.
Stropolo's Facebook page, according to Mortensen, has numerous pictures of Stropolo in Saints garb. He is also from the New Orleans area.
"Stropolo's status update (on working the Sunday game) drew 73 "likes" and comments such as 'Hey, now be nice with those yellow flags for our Saints!!' and 'That's awesome you get to be an official for a Saints game! I didn't think they would let you since your (sic) from Louisiana,'" Mortensen wrote.
