NEW ORLEANS — Running back Mark Ingram could be seeking a trade away from New Orleans after not being featured in the Saints’ prolific offense, a CBSSports.com report says.
Jason La Canfora posted a story Sunday in which he says Ingram could be moved before the Week 8 trade deadline.
The move, should it happen, would thin out one of the Saints’ deepest position with Pierre Thomas, Darren Sproles, Travaris Cadet and Khiry Robinson also on the roster.
Ingram is inactive for Sunday’s game against Arizona with a toe injury.
The Saints traded back into the first round of the 2011 draft to take Ingram, Alabama’s first-ever Heisman Trophy winner. With the Crimson Tide, Ingram became one of the nation’s top backs by continually getting carries as games went on, wearing down defenses.
But in New Orleans, he shares the load with Thomas and Sproles. He has 17 carries for 31 yards this season, drawing the ire of Saints fans. Twice against Tampa Bay he failed to convert goal-to-go situations from the 1-yard line.
