Backup quarterback Chase Daniel has agreed to a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs according to multiple reports.
Daniel, who has been Drew Brees’ backup with the Saints for the past four seasons, has thrown a total of nine passes, completing seven of them for 55 yards. He’ll immediately compete with Alex Smith, whom the Chiefs received in a trade with San Francisco.
When the 2012 season ended, Daniel was open to returning to New Orleans but preferred to ply his trade elsewhere. The former Missouri quarterback and one-time Heisman Trophy finalist is hoping to win a starting position for the first time since his days in college.
Daniel also rushed for 30 yards in his career with New Orleans.
