NEW ORLEANS – A source told the National Football Post that Missouri linebacker Sean Weatherspoon will visit with the Saints beginning today.
The Saints could be in the market for a linebacker after the defending Super Bowl champions lost outside linebacker Scott Fujita to the Cleveland Browns in free agency.
While Saints are in need of both defensive linemen and younger linebackers, General Manager Mickey Loomis said the team felt good about the linebackers left on the roster.
He didn’t rule out drafting at either position, however.
“We have a need at both of those positions,” Loomis said. “But we have some guys in the building, probably more guys in the building at the linebacker position than we do at defensive end. But we also have a lot of draft picks that we get to exercise in April. Hopefully we’ll be able to fill both those spots between free agency and the draft.”
Weatherspoon, who also is scheduled to visit with Atlanta and Denver according to the National Football Post, is a 6-foot-1, 239-pounder who finished with 104 tackles, 14½ tackles for a loss and 4½ sacks this past season.
