Former Bills safety Jairus Byrd will visit the Saints, an NFL source confirmed Tuesday.
Byrd, a former second-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2009, has 22 interceptions in 67 games. He also has forced 11 fumbles.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the visit.
The Saints are in need of safeties on the roster. As free agency began Tuesday, only one safety was listed with the team – second-year player Kenny Vaccaro.
New Orleans tendered Rafael Bush earlier this offseason, according to multiple reports. The Saints, meanwhile, released veteran Roman Harper and Malcolm Jenkins was an unrestricted free agent.
Jenkins agreed to terms with Philadelphia.
Byrd was the third-rated safety according to NFL analytics website Pro Football Focus. Quarterbacks targeted him 33 times, completing just 17 of them.
