METAIRIE, La. ― Robert Meachem continues to work out with the team during individual passing drills, but he can’t participate in team periods until he leaves the PUP list.
As for when that will be, well, that’s a good question.
Meachem said Saturday that while he’s ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation of a broken second toe on his left foot, doctors haven’t cleared him to go yet.
He visits the doctor early this week for a review and hopes that he’s given the all-clear.
That his progression has been this slow doesn’t sit well with him.
“I really am not alright with it, but I have to obey the doctor,” Meachem said. “Everything happens for a reason. The good lord puts us through a lot of tests in life and it’s time for me to have to be patient.”
Meachem, who returns as the third-leading receiver in yards catching and touchdown receptions, said he could play today if he needed to, but that he would be in pain.
But while he’s like to return, he doesn’t want a replay of last season, when he played the final 15 games, including playoffs, with a broken toe.
“By it being fixed, I’m trying to do everything I can to keep it fixed and not re-injure it,” Meachem said.
