METAIRIE, La. — New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham was limited in practice Wednesday, a positive step after the team downgraded him this past Saturday for the Tampa Bay game.
Graham, who injured his right ankle against San Diego on Oct. 7, “looked very, very good,” acting head coach Joe Vitt said.
“He did what we call land-based stuff,” Vitt said.
Meanwhile, linebacker David Hawthorne (right hamstring) was limited, as well, practicing for the first time since the Sept. 23 game against Kansas City. He sat out nine consecutive practices prior to Wednesday.
Receiver Joe Morgan (chest) also was limited.
Running back Darren Sproles missed with an excused absence to tend to an illness in the family, Vitt said.
As for the linebacker corps, Vitt said getting Hawthorne back was a step in the right direction. In addition to him, Jonathan Casillas (neck) wasn’t on the list and moved around better than he has in recent weeks, Vitt said.
Jonathan Vilma, in his second week with the team practicing and first since playing his initial game this season, “upped” his repetition count, Vitt said.
