Saints add depth at OT, sign Jason Smith to one-year contract

NEW ORLEANS —   The Saints have signed offensive tackle Jason Smith to a one-year contract, the team announced Thursday.

The 6-foot-5, 308-pounder has played for the St. Louis Rams and New York Jets, starting 26 of the 45 games he has played since entering the NFL in 2009 out of Baylor.

He spent three seasons in St. Louis, starting 15 games his second year as Steven Jackson rushed for more than 1,200 yards. He spent this past year with the Jets, where he served as a blocking tight end and backup tackle.
