NEW ORLEANS – Saints fans will be a little lighter in the pocket, after the team announced plans to raise the cost of season tickets.

The team made the announcement as fans got their season ticket renewal notices.

According to the team’s Web site, the increase is the first one in two years, but comes a day after 1,200 fans were informed that they were losing their tickets due to a renovation of a press box inside the Superdome.

“The new pricing plan that will take effect in 2010 will feature more than half of the season ticket holders experiencing per game increases of $10 or less per seat,” said the team’s Web site.

While the price hike comes on the heels of the franchise's first Super Bowl championship, the team was quick to point out 'While the Saints are increasing average ticket prices, the club is one of just a handful of major league professional sports franchises that still offers season tickets for $25.00 apiece for their games, with over 6,000 seats available to spectators at that price."

“As reflected by the NFL’s study, we place paramount value on the relationships that we share with our season ticket holders,” said Saints’ Vice President of Ticket and Suite Sales Michael Stanfield. “Our goal is to continue to provide strong value and services for our fans and we are deeply appreciative of their support. Our organization is committed to continuing to fielding a championship-caliber product on the field, as well as to continue to rank first overall in customer satisfaction.”

The Saints opponents at home are the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Minnesota Vikings, St. Louis Rams, Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers.
