NEW ORLEANS -- Jarius Bryd, the All-Pro safety signed by the New Orleans Saints in the off-season, has undergone a surgical procedure for a disc issue in his back, head coach Sean Payton said.
Payton added that Byrd was having no pain, and that if this was identified during the season, medical staff would treat it and Bryd would play.
The Saints said Byrd would be back on the field in a week's time and be ready for training camp in late July.
Byrd was considered by some to be the top free agent available during the offseason. The Saints surprised many with the signing as it was believed they were squirreling most of their money away for a new contract for Jimmy Graham.
