METAIRIE, La. — The Saints have added cornerback Trevin Wade, agent Michael Hoffman confirmed Monday afternoon.
Hoffman broke the news on Twitter early in the afternoon when he tweeted, “Congrats to @TwoStarWade the newest member of the #Saints. #HardWork #NFL #newbeginnings.”
Wade was Cleveland’s seventh-round pick in the 2012 draft and played in 11 games that season for the Browns. He hasn’t played in a game in 2013, however.
The 23-year-old followed up his agent’s Tweet with one of his own, saying, “Really appreciate all the love from #WHODATNATION. Ready to play my role and add to the team success. #LetsGetIt.”
A roster spot opened for Wade after cornerback Jabari Greer suffered what appears to be a season-ending knee injury.
While Coach Sean Payton didn’t give much detail on the injury during Monday’s news conference with reporters, he did label it as “significant.”
Greer was atop the defense’s leader board for pass breakups in 2013, registering 12 of them in a little more than nine games. His injury, in fact, occurred when he broke up a pass from San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick to receiver Jon Baldwin in the first quarter Sunday.
