METAIRIE, La. – Tests on Tracy Porter’s neck came back negative, Saints coach Sean Payton said, and the cornerback was at the facility going through rehabilitation Monday morning.

“Basically, he’s dealing with some chest and upper back soreness from the collision,” Payton said. “All the news with his injury is positive so that’s encouraging.”

Porter injured his neck on the second play of Sunday’s game when he dived low to hit Tampa Bay receiver Mike Williams.

Both were down on the field after the hit, but Williams eventually walked off on his own and returned to the game.

Porter was on the ground for more than 10 minutes before finally being loaded onto a backboard and onto a stretcher on which he was carted off the field and to an ambulance, which took him to a local hospital for observation.

For fellow defensive back Malcolm Jenkins, it was good to see his teammate back in the locker room so soon after what appeared to be a devastating blow.

“It looks like he’s doing pretty good,” Jenkins said. “It was as serious as it looked. He’s in good spirits. We’ll just wait to see what they say about his neck.”
