NEW ORLEANS ― Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said he expects running back Adrian Peterson to play Sunday when the Saints play Minnesota in Minneapolis.

Peterson hasn’t played since the Vikings’ Nov. 20 six-point loss to the Raiders. He has been hampered by an ankle injury.

“We will get our first chance to see him today at practice but we are optimistic that this is the week that we will get him back,” Frazier told New Orleans media during a conference call Wednesday morning.

Despite being out three games, Peterson is 17th in the NFL in rushing, compiling 872 yards and 11 touchdowns on 186 carries.

Additionally, he’s tied for first in the NFL on third-and-one conversions, picking up a first down on 6 of 6 tries.
