NEW ORLEANS - Across the metro area, Who Dats cheered on the Black and Gold Sunday night.
There was even more excitement surrounding the first preseason game after an offseason on the defensive.
Who Dats were out in full force Sunday, packing Tracey's Irish Bar to watch the Saints first preseason game. Many say they're just happy the focus is finally on football after a painful offseason for the Black and Gold.
"You would think it was a playoff game in here tonight, we're all excited," said Saints fan Chuck Wattigny. "It's just going to great to get past all the things in the off season and move forward and just see what the Saints can do this season."
Who Dats say there's even more excitement surrounding the first preseason game after an offseason of bounty gate and contract holdouts.
"This whole offseason's been tough for everybody in the city and the team especially, but I think we're going to do well this year. I think people are underestimating us. I really do," said Chris Johnson, a bartender at Lucy's Retired Surfer's Bar.
"It's nice to have bounty gate and everything else that happened in this offseason behind us and get back to some football," said fan Kameron Whitmeyer.
But every Who Dat knows being a Saints fan isn't just about football. The first preseason game marks the start of a certain type of camaraderie in New Orleans as fans come together to cheer on their team.
"That's one of the greatest things about the Saints, is it's really a unifying force and a lot of people that don't even pay attention to football that much are Saints fans," said fan Amy Robertson, who celebrated her birthday Sunday night with a Saints-inspired cake.
And with the Super Bowl in New Orleans this year, fans are hopeful the Saints will go all the way on their own turf.
"We're going to win the Super Bowl in the 'Dome," said Rachael Kostelec
The first regular game of the season is at home next month.
