NEW ORLEANS -- Ten years later New Orleans remembers No. 31, still a common sight around New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
Ten years ago Tuesday, LSU baseball player Wally Pontiff Jr. died of a genetic heart disease. He was 21 years old.
As a true freshman he helped lead LSU to the 2000 National Championship. He was the team's captain in 2002.
Pontiff was from Jesuit High School and Metairie, where there's now a playground in his name and a foundation in his honor.
