LSU stranded 13 baserunners and gave up 11 hits, including a first-inning two-run home run and fell to North Carolina 4-2 in an elimination game Tuesday at the College World Series.
For only the fourth time in 16 trips to Omaha, Neb., for the annual tournament, the Tigers went 0-2. LSU scored only three runs in two games.
North Carolina (58-11) chased LSU's Cody Glenn after only two innings after the Tigers' starting pitcher gave up three runs on five hits.
The Tar Heels, meanwhile, picked up seven strong innings from freshman closer Trent Thornton, who gave up nine hits but allowed only two runs while striking out three.
