LSU’s March 27 pro day will be one of seven such events televised by ESPN3 this year, another sign of the explosion of interest into the NFL draft and its precursor events.

Beyond the Senior Bowl and the NFL combine, pro day’s give players another chance to interview for teams, but in familiar surroundings.

This year, the NFL combine set a record for the league’s network, with 7.24 million viewers taking it in over the four-day period. That was an 11 percent increase from the previous year.

For LSU, Barkevious Mingo leads a list that includes 20 former players attempting to impress scouts and pro personnel to take them.

Additionally, Sam Montgomery, Kevin Minter and Eric Reid will participate.

“This is always a great day for our program,” LSU coach Les Miles said. “It brings tremendous exposure to our program and serves as a great opportunity for our former players to showcase their talent and abilities in a familiar setting to NFL scouts and coaches.”

Pro days are much like the combine in that players run 40-yard dashes, participate in broad and vertical jumps and bench press 225 pounds as many times as they can.

Several mock drafts have Mingo going to the Saints, Reid to the Rams and Montgomery to the Seahawks in the first round.

In addition to LSU, ESPN3 also will televise pro days from Alabama (March 13), Oregon (March 14), Florida State (March 19), Georgia (March 21), Stanford (March 21) and USC (March 27).  Texas’ March 26 pro day will be televised on the Longhorn Network.
