BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU first baseman Mason Katz homered for the third time in two games as No. 3 LSU (15-1) won its 10th-straight game, sweeping Washington (4-11), 7-5, on Sunday at Alex Box Stadium.
LSU plays host to Nicholls State at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Alex Box Stadium. The Tigers begin Southeastern Conference play next weekend at Mississippi State.
“With the wind blowing out the way it was today and pitching depth becoming an issue for the last game of a series, I thought we might be in for a real explosion on offense,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. “The game didn’t quite unfold that way, but we did get some key hits, and our pitching and defense were excellent the entire day.”
LSU catcher Ty Ross added a solo shot in the second inning, collecting his second dinger of the season.
Outfielder Mark Laird went 4-for-5 on the day, marking his second four-hit game of the season.
LSU starter Cody Glenn (3-0) received the win giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out seven in 5.2 innings.
“I was very proud of the way Cody kept his composure and continued to make good pitches,” Mainieri said. “A few ground balls got through the infield early in the game to give them a lead, but Cody hung in there and gave us a great outing.”
Washington starting pitcher Tyler Davis suffered the loss (0-2) allowing four runs on five hits while striking out two in two innings of work.
