LSU sophomore pitcher Aaron Nola and freshman shortstop Alex Bregman were named first-team all-Americans by the American Baseball Coaches Association in a year in which they led the Tigers back to the College World Series.

Additionally, first-baseman Mason Katz was a second-team honoree.

All three were named to the all-South region first-team.

Nola went 12-1 in 2013 with a 1.57 ERA, recording 122 strikeouts in 126 innings pitches. He was the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Year and is a finalist for National Pitcher of the Year.

Bregman, meanwhile, was the National Freshman of the Year as named by both Collegiate Baseball and the National College Baseball Writers Association. He hit .369 in his first season on campus, recording 18 doubles, seven triples and six homers while driving in 52 runs. He also was the SEC Freshman of the Year.

Katz, a Harahan, La., native, batted a team-high .370 with 14 doubles, two triples and 16 home runs. He knocked in 70 RBI and was a first-team all-SEC member. The NCBWA voted named him as a first-team all-American.

LSU went 57-11 in 2013, tying a school mark for most victories in a season while setting a school record for SEC regular-season wins at 23. But the season ended earlier than expected as the Tigers went 0-2 in Omaha, Neb.
