BATON ROUGE, La. - Freshman Aaron Nola struck out 10 in eight innings of work and his brother Austin drove in a pair of runs as LSU began the Baton Rouge regional with a 4-1 win over Louisiana-Monroe.
The top seed Tigers will face Oregon State Saturday night at 7 pm.
ULM’S Randy Ziegler battled Nola on even terms until the seventh. The bearded lefty got out of a couple of tough jams and received a standing ovation from an appreciative crowd when the Tigers chased him in that frame.
Tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the seventh, LSU got three in the seventh to open up a tight contest.
Singles by Ty Ross, Alex Edward and Tyler Hanover, followed later by a run-scoring double by Austin Nola, made it 4-1, and that’s how it would end.
