MEMPHIS, Tenn.  -- Memphis officials have scheduled a news conference for Sunday and, according to several reports, the Tigers will announce the hiring of LSU assistant Daniel Porter as its new football coach.

Memphis athletic department spokesman Bob Winn said Saturday only that the announcement "pertains to the football program."

Athletic director R.C. Johnson did not immediately respond to a text message to his cell phone Saturday afternoon.

Memphis completed its season with a 33-30 overtime loss against Tulsa on Friday.

Porter, a former Memphis running back, is LSU's running backs coach and chief recruiter.
