Duck season opens half-an-hour before sunrise this Saturday (Nov. 11) in the Coastal and West Zones. Hunters who don’t have a private lease or book with a guide have several public, state-managed wildlife areas with good duck habitats to pick from.
Biloxi in St. Bernard, Pass a Loutre in Plaquemines, Salvador in St. Charles and Pointe Au Chien in Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes are all excellent choices.
On WMAs, hunter will need a WMA hunting permit in addition to their basic license and waterfowl stamps. Those same areas are prime for redfish, bass and speckled trout, so don’t forget to pack your rod along with your shotgun.
