OPINION:

TAMPA, Fla. -- The time between when Sunday's game was completed and the opening of the Saints locker room was all the time players were going to get this time.

There would be very little time to enjoy a 38-7 plastering of Tampa Bay that kept New Orleans undefeated and atop the NFC.

They wouldn't get 48 hours.

Or 24 hours.

Heck, or even 10 minutes.

For all intents and purposes, focus already was on the Patriots game the Monday following Thanksgiving.

At least, that's where the questioning was trending.

And why wouldn't attention turn that way.

Sunday's game was the varsity going against the JV. The most significant thing that came out of the game against the Bucs is that Leigh Torrence and Randall Gay left with injuries, Torrence a shoulder problem and Gay a hamstring.

With the Patriots 7-3 - pending an all but assured win over the Jets - Monday's game could be considered one of the biggest ever in Saints history.

As long as New Orleans remains undefeated, you could say that about all of the games.

But Monday is special. It comes against the only team to ever go through a 16-game regular season undefeated.

The Pats did it 2007. The Saints hope to do it in 2009.

"No matter who we're playing, it's the most important game of the season," Saints quarterback Drew Brees said. "The fact that it is the Patriots, that's who a lot of us are emulating. We're trying to be what they built. That's why you can put this game even a little further up there."

So far, so good.

The Saints are 10-0 for the first time ever. Heck, it's the first time New Orleans has even won 10 straight games.

Few people in this locker room can say they've been at this point in their career - Randall Gay with New England in 2007, David Thomas with New England in 2007 and the University of Texas in 2005, Jonathan Vilma at the University of Miami in 2001 and 2002 and Jeremy Shockey at Miami in 2001. Will Smith also did it at Ohio State.

But only Thomas and Gay have done it professionally.

It's something special.

"It feels good for the moment but we know it's short lived because we have another hard fought game next week," Smith said.

Ah, back to the Monday night game.

The hype is going to come and it's going to come in droves.

"The hype is really going to be the media," Vilma said. "They're goign to put the spin on it and the whole nine yards. For us, we're going to focus. We're going to do the things we've been doing.

"For myself, not listening to the media, not reading the papers so I can focus on football. I know my teammates are the same way. We don't need to buy into the hype.

"We just need to get ready to play."

For 10 weeks this season, that's exactly what they've done.

It feels good to be 10-0 they said.

But that's now in the past.

It's Patriots week.

In my mind it has to be the most defining game of the franchise, up there with the NFC Championship game against Chicago. I have to admit beating the Pats would be a big thing in my mind. I want this game BAD. I can't stand the Pats and Brady. I would love it if the Saints plow them under the superdome rug. . . .

Did anyone notice Tom Brady sulking off the field with his bodyguard after the loss to the Colts? He didn't stay to congratulate the winning players and coaches. In contrast. Payton Manning always stays around, even if losing the game. I have never liked Brady...he acts like his stuff don't stink, but when I saw him sulking off the field I liked him even less. Come on, Drew, make him sulk again. You don't need his congratulations. You stand head and shoulders above him in character and talent. Goooooo Saints!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with the two comments above. Brady is a SUPER twerp. And the Pats are cheating dirt bags. Would LOVE to see the Saints BURY them! GO SAINTS!!!

I mostly write attacks on Marxist politicians, so it's fun to have positive things to share for a change. How 'bout those Saints?! After 40 years a fan/observer, I keep thinking the collapse is next. But each week I find a strange thing happening as the guys dominate or find a way to win. It is all so very confusing. My only choice is to accept the astonishing fact that this team is every bit as good as it seems to be.....................

maninharahan. I noticed the same thing yesterday when the won against the Jets. Totally low class. And the Patriots tried throwing a long bomb to Moss with 25 seconds left in the game when they were already up by about 20 points or so. And you could read Rex Ryan's lips after that - lets just say he wasn't happy with it. I think that's why everybody outside of New England hates the Patriots. They may be good, and you can't deny that, but they are totally low class, from their coach on down. And you can just tell that Brady is a whiny baby who won't even go shake hands with the other team. Personally, I'd like to see the saints take his head off (with a clean hit).

A very good game yesterday, but monday night , it's gonna be a dog fight, let's just be honest about this game i thought it could be the one that made the saints remember if you want to be the best you have to beat the best and new england has been one of the best for awhile now, personally i am looking forward to seeing just how good the saints really are, because it's going to take a game like yesterday but better to stop the pats, this is going to be the game of the yr,and it also might be the first round of a two game series, one in the dome the other in jan down in florida. GO SAINTS this is just another step toward home field advantage in the playoffs.

Bring on the Brady Bunch! Woo hoooo......we can beat this bunch of low-class players that the media loves to call a "dy- nasty"....I think they are just "nasty". Go Saints!!!!

Unfortunately I happen to now live up in Maine, been a Saints fan since their inception. It has been a long 40 years of being laughed at. Now it is our turn to laugh! Oh and I couldn't agree more that the patsies are the most classless organization in the league, and that is saying a lot in a league with Jerry Jones and Al Davis. GO SAINTS! Hopefully this will be my most enjoyable Monday night in Maine yet :)

I read the other day that the night before the Patroits/Jets game someone set off the fire alarm at 2am waking up the jets players for several hours. I also read where this has happened before to another team playing the Patriots, so I am asking anybody in the New Orleans Area to find out where they are staying and pull the fire alarm tthe night of the game to give them a taste of their own medicine! just a thought!!!!! GO SAINTS
