From Staff Reports

NEW ORLEANS ― Amid the lockout and uncertainty involved whether there will or won’t be an NFL season this fall, Jacoby Jones has never wavered in one belief – giving back to the community that gave him so much.

Jones, a Houston Texan and Abramson High School graduate, is hosting a celebrity basketball event tonight at Xavier University’s gym and a free youth football camp on Saturday.

Money from tonight’s basketball gathering will go to support Xavier’s athletics department and the Jacoby Jones Football Camp.

The football camp is a one-day event at Pontchartrain Park from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and is open to 8- to – 18-year-olds. On-site registration is available.

Meanwhile, it’s tonight’s event that should draw interest.

Besides Jones, Saints receiver Robert Meachem will play along with Texans Andre Johnson, Vonta Leach, Duane Brown, Torri Williams and Brice McCain. Also scheduled to help out are Dominque Rodgers Cromartie of the Cardinals as well as former NBA player Darius Miles, And-1 player Taurian Fontenette and Congressman Cedric Richmond.

Cost is $8 and the event begins at 7 p.m. There is an autograph session from 5:45-6:15 p.m.
