RUSTON, La. (AP) — Lafayette achieved perfection as the Lady Lions (35-0) completed an unblemished 2012 campaign with a 39-32 win over Southwood for the Louisiana Girl's 5A state championship on Friday night.
Southwood (35-1), aiming for the same goal, fell short after only shooing 16.7 percent from the field (9-for-54) and only hitting four field goals in the second half. Alexus Howard led the Lady Cowboys with 10 points.
Armanee Broussard, the State Farm Most Outstanding Player, scored 11 points while Sabre Sarradet tallied 13 rebounds for Lafayette.
Lafayette led early on after Southwood missed its first 19 straight field goal attempts to start the game, but the Lady Cowboys were able to tie it at halftime as Lafayette went over nine and a half minutes without scoring a field goal. Neither team scored a basket in the first 4:30 of the second half.
