Mt. Carmel, Jesuit win regional tennis titles

Jesuit's boys tennis team and Mt. Carmel's girls squad won the Region 3-I tournament held at UNO on Thursday.

Jesuit's boys team finished with 18 points and was followed by Rummel (8), Assumption (8), Brother Martin (8), South Lafourche (5), Terrebonne (3), Central Lafourche (2), South Terrebonne (2) and Thibodaux (2).

The girls' final standings were Mt. Carmel (16), Assumption (11), Dominican (8), Thibodaux (7), H.L. Bourgeois (5), South Lafourche (5), Chappelle (3), Central Lafourche (2) and South Terrebonne (1).

In boys singles, Jesuit's Taylor Smith defeated Assumption's Zach Marroy in the semifinals. Smith, the top seed, lost in the finals to Rummel's Brock Turnbull. In girls singles, Thibodaux's Indi Mire defeated Dominican's Kaylyn Blosser in the semifinals. Mire lost in the finals, 6-3, 6-2 to Mt. Carmel's Ellen Edwards.

In girls doubles, Assumption's Erin Hebert and Paige Blanchard beat Mt. Carmel's Janie Lester and Meg Skonsi in the semifinals, but they lost in the finals to Mt. Carmel's Meghan DeBaroncelli and Gabriell Roe (6-2, 6-0).

The finals and semifinal participants will all advance to the Division I state tournament held Lafayette on Monday and Tuesday.
