Spurs slam Hornets 100-80 to even series
SAN ANTONIO -- Tim Duncan had 22 points and 15 rebounds, and the San Antonio Spurs beat the New Orleans Hornets 100-80 on Sunday night to even the Western Conference semifinals at 2-2.

Winning on the road
New Orleans went into its first-round series against Dallas with one big unknown – could the Hornets win in Big D?

They hadn’t done it in 13 games spanning 10 seasons, including two in the regular season this year.

Now, with the Hornets set to take their 2-0 lead into the AT&T Center in San Antonio, the franchise won’t have that same question hanging over its head.

* Hornets look to steal one in San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO -- Chris Paul turned 23 on Tuesday. The New Orleans Hornets' talented point guard said he had a low-key birthday, just hanging out with his teammates.

The big surprise party might happen Thursday night, courtesy of Paul and his team if they can beat the defending champion San Antonio Spurs yet again by picking up a Game 3 win to take a 3-0 lead in the Western Conference semifinals.

New Orleans Hornets: The Fun Bunch
Moments after the New Orleans Hornets put San Antonio away 102-84 in Game 2 of its Western Conference semifinal, Jannero Pargo, Tyson Chandler and Mike James celebrated with a dance in the locker room.

Giddy about going up 2-0? Sure.

Normal for a team that averages 24 years old? Absolutely, and it’s the same way this team has been throughout this record-setting season

Hornets turning game around in 2nd half
For the second game in a row, New Orleans took over its Western Conference semifinal against San Antonio in the second half.

In Saturday’s Game 1, the Hornets took over in the third, outscoring San Antonio 29-17.

Monday night was even more impressive. New Orleans outscored the Spurs 36-18 in the third quarter.

* Paul masterful in Game 2 victory
On Saturday night, San Antonio searched in vain for an answer to New Orleans’ David West.

They found none, and West scored 30 points and had nine rebounds.

Monday night, they did.

* Hornets trounce Spurs again
Chris Paul had 30 points and 12 assists, leading the New Orleans Hornets to a 102-84 victory Monday night and a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven, second-round series.

Forecast: Hornets should expect furious game from Spurs
In the NBA what defines a champion? They all have great players and a great coach but the dynasties have something else.

West's 30 points paces Hornets
When a reporter asked David West what New Orleans did to stop Tim Duncan Saturday night, he laughed and gave credit to Tyson Chandler.

If he wasn’t responsible for holding Duncan to five points and three rebounds, it was about the only thing he didn’t do against the Spurs in New Orleans’ 101-82 win.

* Hornets hold Duncan to career playoff-low
This last time Tim Duncan scored in single digits, San Antonio defeated Indiana despite its stars low point total.

Saturday night in New Orleans Arena, the Hornets made sure that wouldn’t happen again.

Hornets facing tested, experienced Spurs
WESTWEGO – San Antonio has won four NBA championships in the past nine seasons.

The Hornets franchise has yet to make an appearance in the league’s Finals.

So, when a reporter recently asked New Orleans’ Tyson Chandler if the team needed to beat the best to be the best, the center’s answer shouldn’t be surprising.

Pargo's play key in Hornets series win over Dallas
As New Orleans’ Jannero Pargo slipped on his red-and-white candy-striped button-down shirt Tuesday night, a throng of reporters and TV cameras waited on New Orleans’ bench guard.

The small-in-stature, large-in-heart player from Arkansas isn’t always the one the media goes to talk to about the game.

Paul breaks out of slump to record triple-double
In the two games prior to Tuesday night, Dallas figured out a way to hold New Orleans’ all-star point guard in check.

Apparently, all Chris Paul needed was his own bed and a little love from the home fans.

Hornets hold off Mavs to move on
David West stumbled toward the sideline after hitting a fadeaway as he was fouled, then turned toward the bench and slapped the extended hand of Hornets coach Byron Scott.

Did the Saints get lucky when their school girl crush for Glenn Dorsey was rebuffed by the Kansas City Chiefs?

Hornets break 10-year drought to take 3-1 series lead
West let out his pent-up frustration over a poor Game 3 with a determined effort in Game 4, scoring 10 of his 24 points in a quick stretch early in the second half to help the New Orleans Hornets pull away for a 97-84 victory Sunday and a 3-1 lead in the first-round series.

Cold-shooting Hornets slammed by Mavs
DALLAS -- Even with Jason Terry guarding him, the crowd booing him and Dirk Nowitzki setting the tone for a renewed intensity among the Dallas Mavericks, Chris Paul insisted being on the road in the playoffs wasn't much different than being at home.

Lack of experience not holding Hornets down
After two quarters Saturday, it appeared New Orleans’ postseason inexperience was an actual storyline to its series against Dallas.

The past six quarters of basketball have pretty much put that thought to rest.

After outscoring the Mavericks by 24 points in the second-half of the series opener, the Hornets owned all of Game 2, beating down Dallas 127-103 to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Paul torches Mavericks again, guiding Hornets to 2-0 series lead
Chris Paul darted down the floor, a smidgen fewer than two seconds left in the first quarter.

Instead of rushing a poor shot, he took a dribble, floated to his right and lofted a shot that beat the buzzer.

Tyson Chandler rushed to the floor to greet his point guard and give him a low five.

Tuesday night, though, Paul needed no introduction, no flashy greeting.

* Paul brilliant again as Hornets roll Mavs in Game 2
Chris Paul had 32 points and a franchise playoff-record 17 assists, leading New Orleans to a 127-103 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night that gave the Hornets a 2-0 lead in their first-round series.

Giving the Mavericks what they wanted
A little smirk crept across Tyson Chandler's face. The subject was the Dallas Mavericks' comments this week that they were pleased to be facing the New Orleans Hornets in the opening round of the NBA playoffs, rather than the top-seeded Los Angeles Lakers.

* Kincaid: Mavs could present matchup problems
Dallas will present a bit of a matchup problem for the Hornets, I think, with their length. Dirk Nowitzki is a matchup problem and if they double him, he can find Jason Terry and Josh Howard, even Jason Kidd.

Hornets win 1st ever division crown
For the first time in franchise history, the Hornets can call themselves a division champion.

With a 114-92 win over the LA Clippers Tuesday night, New Orleans became the Southwest Division champion. After winning only 18 games a few years back, the accomplishment means that much more.

* Big second half lifts Hornets to division title
David West scored 32 and Chris Paul had 12 during a decisive run in the third quarter as the New Orleans Hornets clinched the Southwest Division by beating the Los Angeles Clippers 114-92 on Tuesday night.

Fiery halftime gets Hornets going
Halfway through Tuesday night’s home finale against the LA Clippers, you might have thought you were watching two bad teams compete to make sure they weren’t the worst team in the conference.

The Clippers won’t reach 25 wins this season. And the way the Hornets were playing, you’d think the same.

* Forecast: Hornets defense slumping at bad time
The coastline of Louisiana didn’t just disappear one night. It’s taken decades for the wetlands to fade and New Orleans to become vulnerable to the destructive forces of Mother Nature. Like coastal erosion, the Hornets defense, the last few weeks has crumbled slowly and now might be a fatal problem.

Hornets fall to Kings; out of first place in West
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- David West and the New Orleans Hornets have bigger worries right now than playoff positioning in the ultra-competitive Western Conference.

Hornets can clinch #2 seed, division title with win
The Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Hornets tried to clear up the top of the Western Conference playoff picture Tuesday night, but the middle was still a mess heading into the final two days of the season.
