DALLAS (AP) — SMU has extended coach June Jones' contract two years through the 2014 season.
Athletic director Steve Orsini announced the extension Friday. Financial terms weren't released.
After going 1-11 in Jones' first season, SMU improved to 8-5 last season and went to the Hawaii Bowl to end a 25-year bowl drought. The Mustangs' seven-win improvement marked the largest turnaround for any team last season.
Jones was 76-41 in nine seasons at Hawaii before taking the SMU job. His last game with Hawaii was in the Sugar Bowl after going 12-0 during the 2007 regular season.
