MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis Tigers softball pitcher Carly Hummel set a Conference USA and school record with 19 strikeouts, but took a loss because of an unearned run.

Hummel's efforts against Texas A&M in the Bulldog Classic on Sunday in Starkville, Miss., resulted in a 1-0 loss for the Tigers.

Hummel's previous high and school record was 15 strikeouts during her freshman season, which she accomplished against Alabama State and Mississippi Valley State. The sophomore topped that mark with 16 strikeouts through the first seven innings and struck out a stretch of eight in a row during the fourth through sixth inning.

The previous C-USA record was 16 strikeouts set by Houston's Angel Shamblin against Memphis in 2007 and Southern Miss' Courtney Blades against Chattanooga in 2000.
