MONROE, La. (AP) — Benny Hollis, the former director of athletics and men's basketball coach at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, has died. He was 71. Mulhearn's Funeral Home in Monroe says died Saturday, though officials there did not know how he died. Funeral arrangements are pending.

The Bearkats were making their third straight trip to the Class 4A finals. They lost to Peabody in 2010 and Salmen in 2009. James, a 5-8 guard led all players with 11 rebounds and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line to be named the game's Most Outstanding Player.

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Carroll High rallied from a 12-point fourth quarter deficit to capture the Louisiana Boys Class 3A state basketball championship with a 59-to-49 win over the Abbeville Wildcats yesterday at the LHSAA/State Farm Top 28 Tournament in the Cajundome. The Bulldogs outscored the Wildcats 31-to-nine in the final period to claim the school's third state basketball title and first since 2002.
