BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (AP) — Barry Gray is stepping down after 16 successful years at the helm of Brookhaven Academy girls basketball fortunes.

The Daily Leader reports that during his tenure, Gray's Lady Cougars won six state championships and two MAIS Overall Tournament titles, the latest in 2011, when the team finished 31-4.

Gray has been coaching basketball for 26 years. He says he has several career options in mind and would make a decision regarding his future in the next few weeks.

Brookhaven Academy headmaster Mike Sumlin says the school will work quickly to find a successor.
