GREENWOOD, Miss. (AP) — Sherrod Gideon, the offensive coordinator at Leflore County High School the past two years, has been named the Tigers head football coach.

Gideon replaces Cedric McSwine, who died of a heart attack earlier this year at his home in the Rising Sun community. McSwine served as head coach from 2008-2010, compiling a 24-10 overall record. He took Leflore to the playoffs three straight seasons.

Gideon played at Greenwood High School and Southern Miss from 1996-1999. He played professionally with the Miami Dolphins, the St. Louis Rams, the Houston Texans and in the Canadian Football League.

Gideon and the Tigers kick off their 2011 season Aug. 19 at Greenwood High School.
