Katie Uhlaender's hopes of becoming a dual-sport Olympian are still alive.

The two-time member of the U.S. Olympic skeleton team finished third Saturday in the women's 63-kilogram division at the USA Weightlifting national championships at Council Bluffs, Iowa, a big result for someone who has endured eight surgeries since April 2009.

Next up: More weightlifting training for the remainder of the summer, and then she'll resume training for the winter's skeleton season in Lake Placid, N.Y. starting in October. After undergoing eight surgeries for an array of injuries, Uhlaender — a former World Cup skeleton champion — says she was "blessed" and thrilled with Saturday's bronze.
