AUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) — Tongan-born backrower Ryukoliniasi Holani has pulled out of Japan's Rugby World Cup squad because of a knee injury and will be replaced by Toetsu Taufa.

The 29-year-old Holani damaged the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in Japan's opening loss to two-time finalist France on Saturday night. Japan got within four points of France late in the match but conceded a flurry of tries to go down 47-21. Japan next plays the top-ranked New Zealand All Blacks at Hamilton on Friday.
