NEW YORK (AP) — The NFL calls a report it has offered a settlement and reduced suspension to Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma "completely inaccurate." Vilma has been suspended for the 2012 season for his role in the Saints bounty program, which he adamantly has claimed did not exist.

HOUSTON (AP) — Roger Bernadina scored when Houston made two errors on the same play in the 11th inning and the Washington Nationals picked up their third straight win, 5-4 over the Astros on Monday night. Ryan Zimmerman had two hits and two RBIs, and Michael Morse added two hits for Washington.

LONG POND, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say the man killed by a lightning strike at a NASCAR track in northeastern Pennsylvania was a 41-year-old father from a nearby county. The Monroe County coroner said Monday that Brian Zimmerman, of Moosic, Pa., died as he stood near his car in the parking lot of Pocono Raceway.

HOUSTON (AP) — Houston Texans star receiver Andre Johnson, cornerback Kareem Jackson and left tackle Duane Brown have all returned to practice after sustaining minor injuries last week. Johnson sat out last week's workouts as a precaution after a "mild strain" of his groin on July 29. Brown hurt his left leg last Wednesday.
