TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) — A Traverse City elementary school principal says a basketball coach at the school has been fired after she left her team under the supervision of her husband who's a registered sex offender.

Cherry Knoll Elementary School principal Chris Parker noticed the coach exit the gym last week. Parker says he went inside to make sure someone was watching the team.

Parker saw the coach's husband passing basketballs to the team as they practiced free throws.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports Tuesday (http://bit.ly/Xx0pLO ) Parker checked the online sex offender registry, which indicates the man has a 2002 conviction for third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Traverse City Area Public Schools Superintendent Stephen Cousins says district officials have filed a report so the county sheriff's office can determine if the incident violated state law.
