FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — John L. Smith is out as Arkansas interim head coach in the wake of a season that started with the promise of national significance and ended in also-ran disappointment. The Razorbacks began the season in the top 10, but fell out of the rankings after a Sept. 8 loss to Louisiana-Monroe. Arkansas finished 4-8 and 2-6 in the Southeastern Conference.

SAO PAULO (AP) — Lewis Hamilton won the pole position for tomorrow's season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix, while Formula One leader Sebastian Vettel (VEHT'-ehl) will start fourth and title challenger Fernando Alonso eighth. Vettel has a 13-point lead over Alonso and needs to finish fourth or better in the race to claim his third straight driving championship.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Top-ranked Notre Dame heads into its yearly meeting with rival Southern California tonight eyeing the completion of a perfect season and a spot in the BCS title game. If the 7-4 Trojans are going to bring those hopes to an end, they'll have to do it with redshirt freshman quarterback Max Wittek at the controls of the offense. He's subbing for Matt Barkley who's sidelined with a sprained shoulder.

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas (AP) — One unblemished record is going to be marred when second-ranked Louisville and No. 5 Duke meet in the title game of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament tonight in the Bahamas. The early-season showdown of national powers is a match-up of two 5-0 teams.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Wizards will try again tonight to notch their first win of the NBA season when they host Charlotte. The Wizards are off to a franchise-worst 0-10 start to the season. The league record for worst start to a season is 0-18 by the 2009-10 New Jersey Nets.
