BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The LSU men's basketball team draws a tough foe for its opening home Southeastern Conference game as it plays host to the nationally-ranked Florida Gators today. Florida enters the game ranked No. 11 in the Associated Press poll and No. 9 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) —Mississippi State's Dan Mullen has hired two defensive assistant coaches. The school announced yesterday that David Turner will be in charge of the defensive line while two-time Super Bowl winner Deshea Townsend will lead the cornerbacks. Turner coached the defensive line at Mississippi State from 2007-09. Townsend is a Batesville, Miss., native.

Marshall Henderson strolled into Tennessee's Thompson-Boling Arena and scored 32 points on Wednesday, leading the way as Mississippi pulled off a relatively easy 92-74 victory over the Volunteers. The scary part for future opponents is that Henderson didn't play particularly well. He was just 8 of 19 from the floor, including just 3 of 12 from 3-point range.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) —Tennessee has been missing its hard-nosed defense during the Volunteers' two-game losing streak. The Vols will try to recapture their usual form on defense today at Alabama when they play their first road game in over a month.
