STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi State's Dan Mullen has hired two defensive assistant coaches. The school announced yesterday that David Turner will be in charge of the defensive line while two-time Super Bowl winner Deshea Townsend will lead the cornerbacks. Turner coached the defensive line at Mississippi State from 2007-09. Townsend is a Batesville, Miss., native.

Marshall Henderson strolled into Tennessee's Thompson-Boling Arena and scored 32 points on Wednesday, leading the way as Mississippi pulled off a relatively easy 92-74 victory over the Volunteers. The scary part for future opponents is that Henderson didn't play particularly well. He was just 8 of 19 from the floor, including just 3 of 12 from 3-point range.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The LSU men's basketball team draws a tough foe for its opening home Southeastern Conference game as it plays host today to the nationally-ranked Florida Gators. Florida enters the game ranked No. 11 in the Associated Press poll and No. 9 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) —Tennessee has been missing its hard-nosed defense during the Volunteers' two-game losing streak. The Vols will try to recapture their usual form on defense today at Alabama when they play their first road game in over a month.
